Nero Burning ROM es el núcleo de la suite de grabación actual. Ocupa alrededor de 160 megabytes de disco duro, muchísimo menos que el paquete completo. Claro que tampoco tiene las mismas funciones, pero Nero Burning ROM tiene todo lo esencial, desde la grabación de imágenes ISO hasta las compilaciones de datos o música.

Con los años, el aspecto de Nero Burning ROM apenas ha variado. El asistente de grabación es prácticamente el mismo de siempre, con un selector lateral para el tipo de proyecto y pestañas en el área derecha, dedicadas a la información de sesión, etiqueta y parámetros de grabación. Los de Nero Burning ROM son menús que se reconocen al instante.
